How would you describe your time at United States Navy?

I was employed by the Navy as an operator and maintenance technician for nuclear powered submarines. Along with being a technician and operator, I was also appointed as the Logistics Specialist in charge of ordering and acquiring all repair parts for routine maintenance and corrective repairs. I also had the pleasure of not only being the Ship's Lead Machinist, in charge of maintaining all the machine tools for manufacturing parts that were of urgent need, I had the pleasure of also being a Engine Room Supervisor. Along with all those listed above, I also had the responsibility of being placed in charge of the ship's weight handling program and have received three Navy Achievement Medals for services set forth, including one for my rigging services in replacing electrical breakers.... read more

How would you describe your time at Nuclear Power Training Unit?

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to describe the fundamentals of nuclear propulsion power and the interrelationship of its mechanical, electrical, and reactor subsytems; develop and exercise oral communication skills; understand the physical nature of nuclear radiation particles, their detection, interaction with matter, and human health consequences; gain knowledge of the safe operation of a complex nuclear power plant and its sophisticated subsystems with an emphasis on basic industrial safety principles; identify,
troubleshoot, and correct problems in nuclear mechanical, electrical, or reactor control systems at the
component level with an emphasis on mechanical systems; and apply earlier technical classroom knowledge to the practical, safe operation of Navy nuclear power plants. In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in basic machinery and 2 in mechanical systems (7/01). In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 5 semester hours in general physics, 3 in heat
transfer and fluid flow, 3 in nuclear reactor engineering, 1 in atomic and nuclear physics, 1 in radiation protection technology, 3 in general chemistry and principles of materials, and 4 in technical mathematics. If rating held is Machinist's Mate, add 3 semester hours in applied thermodynamics and heat transfer, 3 in power plant systems, and 3 in basic electricity. If rating held is Electronics Technician or Electrician's Mate, add 2
semester hours in hydraulic systems, 2 in DC circuits, 2 in AC circuits, 2 in digital principles, and 2 in electric machines (7/97).
