Provided research and development services on IT related technologies to the MUSC community. Developed dynamic data driven web applications. System administrator for a group of Linux/Debian based web/database
servers. Wrote web interfaces to legacy applications. Researched, customized and deployed Opensource applications. Prototyped LDAP directory to facilitate campus
wide authentication for Linux, Mac OSX and Samba services. Prototyped solution for campus wide web-mail and campus wide calendaring. Prototyped Podcasting solution
using Asterisk. Worked to promote standards based web development and solutions across the campus. Participated on the campus Infrastructure committee. Frequently contributed back to the Opensource community.

Developed and maintained several Intranet database applications, using Linux, PHP and MySQL. Worked with an outside vendor to build a Web based departmental database using Oracle and WebDB, to be used to track all Pediatric Cardiology patient information.

When initially hired, the department was running DOS, 286 based computers in a 10Base-2 network topology, and did not have Internet access. Within one year the department was upgraded to include: 486 and Pentium class computers running a mix of Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 in a switched 10/100base-TX topology. Every user
was given complete access to the Internet, a departmental Intranet and Internet site was setup, and PPP network access was deployed. Server down-time, which before I
was hired was a major issue, was virtually eliminated. Novell's ZEN Works was used to automate/streamline the deployment of end user applications. Worked with teleconferencing systems to facilitate remote Echo Cardiography to several South Carolina hospitals, distance learning and participation with many South Carolina physicians. This project included the use of Sony teleconferencing equipment over
ISDN lines and Real Networks, Real Video server to stream video/audio over the Internet. Responsibilities also included: the design and implementation of a server disaster recovery system, budgetary planning and the evaluation and recommendation of new software/hardware.

Hired during the initial start-up phase of a new, highly automated textile facility. Worked closely with multiple system integrators to bring the plant online. Involved
with the design, implementation and coding of a plant-wide, client/server, Windows 3.1 to VAX, computer system. Tested new
software installations. Worked closely with an automated storage and retrieval integrator during initial testing phase up until
full production. Assisted management and employees with PC/VAX/AS400 related problems and software questions. Assisted in the installation and debugging of
equipment monitoring network. Wrote VAX CL programs to assist in system
administration. Worked with the installation and support of the plant's telephone system. Responsible for the selection and procurement of equipment and software for new projects. Gathered equipment interface information needed by the principal software integrator. Used network-monitoring equipment to debug plant-wide
network. Assisted in the operation and debugging of dye machine control, computer system. Diagnosed problems with printing and terminal emulation of a remote AS/400 system. Assisted in the installation and use of a Netware 3.11 based time and attendance system. Performed operating system upgrades on the VAX 4500.
Diagnosed both PC and VAX problems. Performed physical network installations. Wrote Paradox applications to assist in inventory accuracy, the tracking of associates training and the tracking of maintenance requests.
