IT Professional

How would you describe your time at U.S. Army?

Employed at the San Francisco office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who specialize in building and maintaining large civil works projects. I worked in the IT infrastructure group which supported both the South Pacific Division and San Francisco District offices totaling roughly 500 users in downtown San Francisco as well as 6 field offices throughout northern California. Job duties were roughly divisible into two categories:

Business analysis work on small to medium size projects utilizing the following skillets:
-process modeling techniques (such as UML)
-requirements gathering
-system requirements engineering
-development based on SDLC principles

Systems Administrator for Networking and Infrastructure utilizing the following skillets:
-Microsoft Active Directory (group policy, dns, dhcp, ldap, etc.)
-MS Exchange Server and MS Systems Management Server
-SAN and NAS storage, designing and configuring RAID solutions
-Disaster Recovery hardware and Veritas backup software
-Virtualization technologies
-Cisco routing and switching, vlan, frame relay and vpn configuration

I chose to study management, particularly entrepreneurship because of it's broad scope in the business school. This required more in depth studies in accounting, finance, and economics than is normally required for a management degree at MSU
