What was one of the biggest lessons you ever learned from being laid off?
Don't wait to get laid off if you can't afford it. If you can afford it, consider why you would stick around for one. The last 3 companies I worked for had layoffs. I left two of them before I became part of the next round. However, I planned to be part of the third company's last wave of layoffs. I had the opportunity to take advantage of a program to go back to school thereby adding to my skillset and finally had enough savings to see me through this plan....

Full-time member of the Strategic Task Force, a think tank composed of key representatives from various functional areas charged with future strategy of the 6th largest supermarket chain in the U.S. with sales of $12.7 billion. Supported consumer appeal and economic viability of strategic recommendations through research, data compilation, and reporting of numerous socio-economic factors, competitive environment, product offerings, industry trends, changing consumer demographics, lifestyles, values, shopping behaviors and preferences.
As Diversity Manager for the Southern Division, I researched diversity of workforce, market demographics and competition's diversity initiatives, and consulted with Human Resources, Operations, Category Management and Marketing on workforce, product, sales, media and service opportunities. Sought, analyzed, recommended and coordinated events marketing. Designed and facilitated Diversity training sessions.
