What path did you take to your current career?
I started my payroll specialist career as a restaurant manager with Kips Big Boy Restaurant in 1972. I interviewed, hired and trained employees in all aspects of the food industry and was in full charge of the operation. These responsibilities included money management, banking, scheduling, inventory, customer service, food handling and profit & loss management. Over the years I have worked for several restaurant chains (i.e. Sandwich Chef Deli, Dusty's Ranch House, Arby's and JT McCord's Bar & Grill). In 1994, I began to work for Flash Delivery Service as a driver in order to attend Eastfield Community College to work towards a Chemical Abuse Counselor major. I graduated from Hazelden Trade School in 1995. As a service to my community, I am a public speaker at rehabilitation centers, jails and half way houses to promote a chemical free lifestyle. I soon realized that being a counselor was not going to pay my bills. In an effort to recreate myself, I began working full time as a payroll clerk for Flash Delivery. With three years of data entry and payroll processing skills, in 2001, I accepted a payroll specialist position with Accor North America and worked there until March 2006. I was responsible for the timely processing of weekly and bi-weekly payrolls; setting up taxes, garnishments (700 dockets), and direct deposit information into the payroll PeopleSoft 8.3. I maintained a high level of productivity in a high volume, fast-paced environment. Taking the initiative and having the ability to work independently with minimal direction, plus the ability to work accurately and quickly under deadlines with frequent interruptions. I was responsible for customer service to both external & internal customers. I acted as a resource person for all payroll related payroll-processing issues including Employee Data Services, Human Resources, and Benefits. I enjoy processing payroll because of the time sensitive nature of the business and its fast pace working environment. My husband became terminally ill in 2003 and passed away April 2006. I have taken some time off to get relocated and get back on track. My goal is to find a company where all of my experiences can be directed towards a satisfying career and a new beginning....
