Who was your most influential mentor and what did they teach you?

One of my English instructors. I had worked on a paper for weeks and when I got my grade back I was really upset. After class I sat in the hallway and cried. The professor happened to walk by me. She told me that she had given me a bad grade because she knew I could have done better and she wanted me to live up to my potential. At the time, I was furious.
