What's the toughest problem you've had to solve at
Factle Maps?
Neighborhood Boundary Mapping. Since working on it initially at Homegain.com where the initial neighborhood mapping project was started, we've come a long way in identifying neighborhood characteristics when it involves mapping out the boundaries of neighborhoods. It's making the abstract and fuzzy, which essentially what neighborhood boundaries are, and then mapping it out into something more concrete that helps identify a spatial space.
There are many definitions of what a neighborhood is, whether it's defined by real estate agents, city planners, community groups, or it's the social map that the locals of a particular region have in their minds. Neighborhoods definitions and structures vary across cities, states, regions, and countries. Neighborhoods in themselves change over time, from the boundaries, it's constituents, and even the name. New neighborhoods arise, neighborhoods might overlap or bleed into other neighborhoods, and some may even cease to exist.
No one has really figured it out completely quite yet, and it's really a tough question. But it's an important question to answer, and that's what we're doing at Factle Maps....
