What's the secret to getting hired at
Mcmaster-carr?
I applied at McMaster hoping for a customer service position and went through an extensive interviewing process. They called me and offered me a position in the warehouse processing reciepts. I was delighted as I really wanted to work there. They treated the new hires very well and I thought I had found my dream job. One day after six weeks I was asked to come to the office. I thought they were going to review me and knowing I was a good worker, dependable and had done everything asked of me, I wasn't worried. I thought maybe ever a six week raise...Boy was I surprised when they told me they were letting me go because they didn't think I was a "good fit". I was so destroyed, my confidence shattered and so devistated. What a surprise. No one had said anything to me prior, no indication of anything amiss. It seemed that they hired a pool of many people and rooted through them, picking out maybe three from the fifteen they had hired, and letting the rest go. The workplace is intense. You are watched every minute and questioned if you have to go to the bathroom and it isn't on your break or lunch. The supervisors are distant and the guidance is limited. If you mamage to keep a position there do not expect any advancement from within..they recruit their management from colleges. A devistating work experience......

What's the secret to getting hired at
Mcmaster-carr?
My experience at MCM was TERRIBLE! The company's 'open door policy' DOES NOT EXIST! MCM probably offers the best pay/benefits ratio package around, but for a price which I found wasn't worth the 'b---s----' that went on inside from top to bottom, daily. They are relentless in trying to 'control' their employees using upper managements 'scare tactics' and extreme bonus to make you 'swallow it'. They offer great benefits and pay just to make you 'bear it and grind it' with whatever happens inside MCM. You got to be sick or have no emotions to take a job with MCM. 'Backstabbing' is constant! It's a 'no man land' once you are inside. 'Double Standard' is rampant as best. I've seen over and over, like they have an inner system, where supervisors and managements have the last word over their employees, regardless. Don't take MCM for face value. What you see from the get go is not what you will see once you are inside. Workers inside MCM appear happy only because of the extreme bonus and pampering they receive yearly. They 'play' you. MCM BUYS the workers' souls. After leaving the company many years later, I returned to Will Call and have noticed the worker's fear, unhappiness, controlled, uncertainties, and an almost 'autonomous' mood, the few I have known previously are not the same people I knew. I am glad I opted out of this 'hostile & degrading controlled environment'. Nothing new. Shame on you MCM....
