ACTIVE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
As a physician assistant and Officer on the U.S. Army Health Care Team, you'll be entrusted with a level of responsibility not found in most health care settings. Working alongside talented physicians and making critical medical decisions, you'll gain the experience needed to take your career to the next level
Benefits include:
- Health Professions Loan Repayment of up to $120,000 over three years; may be applied toward qualified education loans
- Specialty Pay of $2,000 to $5,000 per year for board-certified physician assistants
- Paid continuing education, including post-graduate training programs in orthopedics, emergency medicine, cardiopulmonary perfusion and occupational medicine
- 30 days of paid vacation earned annually
- Non-contributory retirement benefits with 20 years of qualifying service
- No-cost or low-cost medical and dental care for you and your family
- Commissary and post exchange shopping privileges
- Flexible, portable retirement savings and investment plan similar to a 401(k)
- Privileges that come with being an Officer in the U.S. Army
- Training to become a leader in your field
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree, plus completion of an accredited physician assistant program acceptable to the Army Surgeon General
- Certification by the National Commission for Certified Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Eligibility for board certification
- Between 21 and 42 years of age (may request a waiver)
- Students graduating within six months, with a qualifying degree from a U.S.-accredited school, may apply for Active Army service
RESERVE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
As a physician assistant and Officer on the U.S. Army Reserve Health Care Team, you'll have the opportunity to learn new skills that you can use in your practice. When you work in your community and serve when needed, you'll further develop your clinical skills as you care for our Soldiers and their Families.
Benefits include:
- Special Pay of $60,000, paid in three annual increments of $20,000
- Up to $50,000 in education loan repayments through the Health Professional Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP); paid in three annual installments
- Paid continuing education and training
- Non-contributory retirement benefits at age 60 with 20 years of qualifying service
- Low-cost life and dental insurance
- Travel opportunities, including humanitarian missions

- Flexible, portable retirement savings and investment plan similar to a 401(k)

- Eligibility for board certification
- Completion of at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
- Completion of a training program in emergency medicine
- Between 21 and 42 years of age (health care professionals ages 43 to 60 are now eligible for a two-year service contract under the OAPP program)
- Permanent U.S. residency
