As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and Officer on the U.S. Army Reserve Health Care Team, you can make a difference in the lives of our Soldiers and their Families while enhancing your community practice. You'll use advanced technology and techniques to tackle some of the most challenging cases. By practicing in your community and serving when needed, you'll develop new skills as you practice in our collaborative health care environment
Benefits include:
- Special Pay of $75,000, paid in three yearly increments of $25,000
- Health Professional Loan Repayment (HPLR) of up to $50,000 over three years; may be applied toward qualified dental school loans
- Paid continuing education, including clinical specialization and residencies
- Non-contributory retirement benefits at age 60 with 20 years of qualifying service
- Low-cost life and dental insurance
- Travel opportunities, including humanitarian missions
- Commissary and post exchange shopping privileges
- Flexible, portable retirement savings and investment plan similar to a 401(k)
- Privileges that come with being an Officer in the U.S. Army
- Training to become a leader in your field
Requirements include:
- A Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.), Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) or a combination Doctor of Dental Surgery/Doctor of Medicine (D.D.S./M.D.) degree from an ADA-accredited dental program in the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or Canada
- Completion of an Advanced Specialty Education Program in oral and maxillofacial surgery that is accredited by the American Dental Association and acceptable to the Surgeon General
- Between 21 and 42 years of age (health care professionals ages 43 to 60 are now eligible for a two-year service contract under the OAPP program)
- License to practice dentistry
- Permanent U.S. residency

As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and Officer on the U.S. Army Health Care Team, your surgical skills will allow you to do more than restore the smiles of our Soldiers and their Families. You'll practice in one of the world's most advanced organizations, surrounded by professionals at the top of their fields. As part of our collaborative health care organization, you'll tackle challenging cases and come to know the rewards that come with caring for our Soldiers and their Families
Benefits include:
- $75,000 sign-on bonus through the Health Professions Bonus Program
- Active Duty Health Professions Loan Repayment (ADHPLR) of up to $120,000 over three years; may be applied toward qualified dental school loans
- Variable Special Pay of $3,000 - $12,000 annually, based on length of service
- $2,500 - $6,000 Board Certified Pay; paid annually, based on creditable service
- Dental Additional Special Pay of $4,000 - $15,000; paid in one annual sum, based on creditable service
- Dental Officer Multiyear Retention Bonus of $13,000 - $50,000, based on specialty and length of contract
- Paid continuing education
- 30 days of paid vacation earned annually
- Non-contributory retirement benefits with 20 years of qualifying service
- No-cost or low-cost medical and dental care for you and your family
- Commissary and post exchange shopping privileges
