The NGA Center for Best Practices is accepting applications for a senior analyst position in the Homeland Security and Technology Division. This is an outstanding opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with a strong background in state and local homeland security policy and knowledge of justice information sharing programs, public safety communications, and states' use of technology to improve government services.
Responsibilities include supporting the management of the day-to-day operations and administration of the Division's justice information sharing and public safety communications portfolios; coordinating project and contract management activities; working closely with high-ranking state and federal officials; providing technical assistance to the nation's governors and their executive staff; researching and writing reports, articles and papers; and organizing and participating in workshops, conferences and seminars.
Qualifications
A Master's degree in public policy, homeland security or a related field or significant work experience in the homeland security field is required. Familiarity with technology issues preferred. Prior experience with a policy organization is helpful.
The ideal also candidate will have:
* Project management, budget, organizational, and interpersonal skills necessary to coordinate and manage projects involving multiple activities, in a team environment;
* Excellent oral and written communication skills;
* Interpersonal and analytical skills necessary to consult with state officials, define problems and deliver policy solutions;
* Demonstrated ability to gather information about public policy and legislative issues and state and local best practices, synthesize and analyze information for a variety of audiences, and provide consulting services to state officials;
* Technical knowledge related to homeland security, information sharing, interoperable communications issues;
* Ability to assume responsibility and take independent action;
* Competency with basic software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Salary range is to the mid-60s, commensurate with experience. NGA offers an excellent benefits package and work environment.

As an entomologist and Officer, you'll play an important role on the U.S. Army Reserve Health Care Team. Your knowledge of insects, pest management and disease prevention can improve a Soldier's quality of life. When you practice in your community and serve when needed, you'll develop skills that will enhance the work you do every day.
Benefits include:
- Health Professionals Special Pay of $30,000, paid in three annual increments of $10,000
- Up to $50,000 in education loan repayments through the Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP); paid in three annual installments
- Paid continuing education and training
- Non-contributory retirement benefits at age 60 with 20 years of qualifying service
- Low-cost life and dental insurance
- Travel opportunities, including humanitarian missions
