PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Web Designer will perform all job assignments with a positive attitude that reflects the Zoological Society's mission and vision of connecting people to wildlife, conservation and pursues green/conservation practices when feasible. The Web Designer designs and develops new online experiences to support current and on-going marketing objectives; maintains existing Society web sites and social media; supports web design/development needs of outside departments. This position reports to the Web Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Designs web sites, newsletters and other digital marketing materials
* Produces HTML web pages, emails and newsletters utilizing CSS
* Produces full web sites, presentations and banner ads utilizing Flash and AS3
* Maintains and updates existing web sites and email communications for external departments
* Interfaces with various departments to identify project scope and needs
* Updates social media photo and video content
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
* Designs websites, newsletters and other digital marketing materials including presentations and banner ads using Photoshop
* Maintains related files and materials
* Assists in researching emerging Internet technologies and recommending implementation appropriate to the Society's needs
* Maintains a variety of contacts in order to respond to inquiries and requests and to effectively coordinate activities

Performs related duties and responsibilities as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
QUALIFICATIONS
A two year degree in Graphic Design or Web Design preferred or a related field or equivalent specialized training; a minimum of two or more years experience with design and layout of online content, HTML/CSS coding, Flash design/coding experience
Knowledge of
* Visual design, and layout of interactive online content
* Web design principles and interactive experience
* Use of XML and Flash highly desirable
* Content management systems and AJAX/JavaScript libraries is desirable
* Social media such as Face book, Twitter and MySpace
Ability to:
* Effectively design, layout and code HTML web pages, emails and newsletters using CSS
* Design, conceptualize and produce full web sites, presentations and banner ads using Flash and AS3
* Work in a variety of visual styles
* Work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
* Multi-task and prioritize
* Communicate effectively
* Work as a team player
* Deal tactfully and courteously with others
