MyType wants to develop an online model of personality that could be used as a basis for recommendations on everything from books and movies to dating to jobs. We're calling it "likemind collaborative filtering". Our ~50,000 monthly active users take our psychology and other fun quizzes to receive visual and verbal feedback about their personality and preferences, and see how they compare to Facebook friends. They've answers tens of millions of psychometric questions, linked their Twitter accounts, and generally will provide all kinds of information as long as we can reward them with interesting feedback. This gives us a very powerful "data lab" to explore the relationships between psychological models and real-world preferences. We're releasing a more viral beta application right after Thanksgiving, which we expect will substantially increase our user base
You
? A strong web developer (2-5 years experience), proficient in the LAMP stack, know what MVC is, familiar with AJAX handling within frameworks
? Highly self motivated, quick learner
? BIG points if you have machine learning knowledge/experience
? Points if you're familiar with the Zend Framework, the Facebook Platform, or similar
The Job
? Building the back-end of new features in the app
? You will be expected to build experimental features simply and quickly and follow-up with a more rigorous implementation only if users like them
Implementing basic machine learning algorithms, if you know how or can learn
? Building basic data interfaces for analysts
? You can be located anywhere in the world; points if you're in Chicago, DC or New York; more points if you're willing to move to Silicon Valley or some other major U.S. city after we raise our next round of funding
Compensation
? Salary of $40-60k, depending upon qualifications
? Generous stock options
? We would like to start with a one or two month trial contract
