financing solutions to the industries we serve and the customers we
know best. In addition to providing retail, wholesale and lease
financing to help customers buy John Deere equipment, we also serve
the broader needs of the agricultural industry by offering
revolving credit, input and operating loans to help farmers
purchase needed supplies and services. John Deere Credit has
also recently entered the renewable energy arena with a business
unit that focuses on community-based wind
projects.
We are seeking an Electrical
Engineer who will manage the electrical aspects of utility-scale
renewable energy projects within the U.S., from the design phase of
new projects to the operation of existing wind farms. Emphasis will
be on the operation & maintenance support for wind turbines and
grid interconnection facilities.
The position is ideal for an
individual who has broad technical expertise, is comfortable in a
fast paced team, and can appreciate commercial aspects of our
business beyond the job description.
You will have a degree in
electrical engineering with a solid understanding of power
generation plants and utility systems, combined with a passion for
renewable energy technologies. Candidate should also have customer
facing or front end experience.
- This position manages the
electrical engineering aspects of utility-scale renewable energy
projects within the U.S., from initial prospecting through design,
construction, and commissioning of new projects to the operation of
existing wind farms.
- The main focus is on the
operation & maintenance support for wind turbines, substations,
interconnection facilities, metering equipment, underground and
overhead cabling.
- Review the electrical and
control systems of operating wind farms for improvement
opportunities. Efforts include problem identification and root
cause analysis, data acquisition, diagnostics and trouble shooting,
technical change implementation.
- Develop and implement
maintenance policies for all electrical equipment to minimize
downtimes and revenue losses.
- Ensure that wind farms
comply with all technical interconnection and regulatory
requirements. Maintain design documentation and document control
throughout the project life cycle.
- Prepare functional one-line
drawings of both grid interconnection and collection system for
interconnection applications.
- Review technical studies
performed by transmission providers. Translate system study results
into facility design specifications for a most cost-effective
integration of wind projects into the electric power
grid.
- Manage power system designs
for new US wind projects, including substations, collection
systems, cable routing and sizing, protection coordination, and
SCADA integration.
- Support supply management
with technical documentation (specifications, schematics, wiring
diagrams, protection schemes, scope of work) and review of supplier
proposals.
- Provide technical
supervision over electrical contents during construction and
commissioning of new wind projects.
- Stay current with
professional and industrial best
practices.
- Other duties as requested by
supervisor.
- Provide technical leadership
related to wind turbine generator (WTG) equipment for all aspects
of wind farm facilities including substations and interconnection
facilities, as well as certain maintenance engineering processes or
functions across John Deere Renewables.
- Three or more years of
experience in either:
- Power system design,
preferably in a utility environment
- Grid integration of wind
farms
- Operation or service of
power generation plants
- Three or more years of
management experience
- Some experience with power
system analysis tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, PowerWorld
Simulator, Direct Coordination, etc.
- Familiar with current
regulatory requirements (FERC, NERC) and industry standards (NEC,
UL, NEC, IEC, IEEE, etc.)
- Able to work on short
timelines, with incomplete information, self-motivated and willing
to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team. Good at prioritizing
and delegating work
- Willing and able to travel
as the job requires, 20-30%
- Able to work in the
USA

Education:
- MS and/or BS Electrical
Engineering degree (Power Systems Engineering preferred) or
comparable technical knowledge through demonstrated work
experience
- Registered P.E. (preferred)
or working toward registration within 3
years
