What are the most rewarding aspects of your job?

On February 27, 2007 when the stock market plunged and the Dow Average fell 400 some odd points I looked at the performance of the portfolios we managed and they only had reduced by 1.5%. Only one client called and it happened to be unrelated to the event of the day. He commented about how nice it was to know that while everyone was panicking he didn't need to worry.

Being able to implement an effective Asset Allocation and actually see it work was an amazing thing. Knowing that the client is going to be able to attain their goals with confidence made it even better.... read more

How would you describe your time at Portfolio Solutions?

I oversee the investments of our firms clients and ensure that their portfolios are aligned with their asset allocation and their investment policy statement. I do that by identifying those that are deviated by a certain band (typically 5%) and generate the proper trades to bring their portfolio in line.

This reduces the risk in their portfolio by selling out of an asset class (such as Small Cap value) which has done very well recently and now the client holds a large position of it. Taking the gains from the sale to bring that asset class in line with their allocation we now purchase into the asset classes that are below their target, giving fuel to their rise back up which increases their overall return and reducing their overall risk.... read more
