How would you describe your time at United States Navy?
I loved working for the military and protecting the lives of the citizens that inhabit the Unted States. I provided many essential job duties and descriptions during my time within the military. First and foremost I became a sailor after graduating bootcamp. I obtained leadership experience as an assistant to the master at arms. I led the division in making sure cleaning of the barracks was done under my supervision in accordance with the procedures and protocols handed down to me from our petty officers. It was my responsibility to make sure the task was completed in an adequate amount of time. After graduating bootcamp, I went to AZ A School where I learned my rate. At AZ A School, besides learning my rate, I was also expected to fulfill watch duties. The hardest experience and the most stressful experience I have ever encountered in my life began here at AZ A School. I was on watch during a Hurricane which was producing tornados. I was on watch from 12am-2am. It was my responsibility with 6 others, to be on the ready if the sirens had gone to get everyone to safety. This would require waking them up, and moving everyone to the safe location outlined by the petty officers. Although no tornado struck down near our base during this time, it was still extremely stressful to know that their lives were in your hands if called upon. After graduating AZ A School, 4th overall in my class, I was sent to my duty station at Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst NJ. There I was trained in other fields outside of my rate, while further enhancing my education, knowledge of duties that I would be expected to perform. I was trained in the auxiliary security force (ASF) to stand watch as a gate guard. I earned my marksmanship ribbon for completing this task. I would occassionally fill in for my commander's and chief's personal secretary as well as maintain logs and records for the daily maintenance procedures for all of the support equipment located at OMD. My job duties while stationed at Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst were rather abundant. I was expected to dress in business casual to formal wear on a daily basis. I had to take attendance roll call, via the MS Excel program list who was in our office, where others were located who weren't in our office for the day, update personnel records, inform comrades of upcoming events they must take part in, training, setting up meetings for personnel in our office and others visiting from around the entire base, greeting visitors, screening calls, attend meetings and take dictations if a supervisor was unable to do so, report any vital information concerning the whereabouts of shipmates to my supervisors, write legible messages for all staff and supervisors who weren't in the office at the time, cleaning, keeping an organized work desk, taking online tests, maintaining logs and records as well as distributing the daily agenda for the work on the support equipment handled at OMD, creating and maintaining a file system for every piece of support equipment in our office, helping update training records for personnel located at OMD (Licenses, certificates, and other various forms/tests), watch procedures outside of OMD which consisted of answering the base phone, inspecting vehicles, handling of the ensign, writing professional correspondance, cleaning and maintenance of the upkeep of the office and building (also included outside of the building), notifying personnel located at OMD of FOD cleanup procedures located outside of the air hangar (required at least once a week of picking up foreign objects along with the rest of the air department to make sure planes could land and take off safely), ordering office supplies for inventory control management for missing equipment such as tools, as well as ordering simple necessities like pens, paper, ink, and other various office equipment while staying within a budget given by military, tracking all receipts as well as keeping an electronic database through the use of MS Excel in what office supplies were ordered (these procedures involved looking up codes through military equipment books), updating publications and manuals, creating and updating personal personnel information and distribution of this information to various departments, transferring phone within a 8 mult-phone line as well as all other departments located throughout the entire base...

I had a lot of fun meeting and greeting many different customers over the year that I worked there. However, as a part time job it had no career advancement opportunities for me, so I went into the military to further my education and career training.
