How would you describe your time at Sumtotal Systems?
- Manager of the first user experience team at the company. Responsible for establishing the user experience discipline, building out a team, and dramatically improving the user experience of SumTotal products.
- In order to establish the user experience discipline at the company, I outlined and communicated the main user experience goals and principles to the rest of the company, established a UX process and got it integrated into the product development process, carefully picked projects that allowed the UX team to quickly and visibly establish and prove itself, and established a design quality bar and review process for handing off design work.
- Responsible for the design of the next generation of learning and talent development software which will shift from a very complex locally installed product to an easy to use online service (SAAS).
- Responsible for coming up with a long term UX strategy to merge several products into one Talent Development suite including navigation, standards in terms of templates and interaction design, and branding.
- Responsible for gathering customer feedback through usability studies, focus groups and surveys.
- Navigated the team through significant technology, market, product and organization changes.
- Worked with the executive management team (including CEO) on outlining a product strategy around significantly improving the user experience in SumTotal products.
- Started as lead user experience architect reporting to a director of engineering and got promoted to user experience manager reporting to the VP of engineering.
- Managed a team of designers spread over different locations and time zones including Bellevue WA and Hyderabad India.
- Spend about half of my time on individual contributor design work and half on managerial and leadership tasks....

How would you describe your time at Microsoft?
- Product designer in the Windows and Windows Live User Experience team.
- Responsible for the future user experiences around pictures and videos on your Windows PC and online on Windows Live Spaces. Working on user experience that spans desktop applications and websites into seamless delightful user experiences around media sharing, storytelling, organization and media editing. Social interaction around media is a key in the user experience work in the area. Also worked on the user interface of the first generation of digital pictures frames, starting the UI from scratch.
- Ran creative process leading all the disciplines through brainstorm sessions, developed storyboards outlining possible future experiences, translated storyboards into realistic designs.
- Worked with senior management on integration of high level vision into user experience.

- Product designer in the Microsoft User Experience team (MSX) working on Windows Vista and beyond.
- Responsible for the first experience of Windows Vista (including setup, out of the box experience, first time on the desktop, migration of files and settings, and activation). Also responsible for the hardware user experience for Windows Vista (hardware installation, hardware management, etc), part of the networking user experience, and for various marketing tools/applications around upgrading your edition of Windows.
- Worked together with a variety of different product teams in the larger Windows organization to get the user experiences implemented. Also worked together with marketing and branding as well as large OEM???s on integration of business goals into the user experience.
- Worked on a variety of smaller Vista and XP projects as a user experience consultant.
