What advice do you have for someone looking for their first job out of college?
Make every effort to present yourself in a way that would be of interest to the hiring department; catch their interest! Most organizations are looking for the skillset but they are looking for a match to the cultural set of the company as well. (Most people are hired on skills but fired for 'fit'). Do you research and refer to that research in your correspondence.
Avoid sending your resumes out to numerous locations and then sitting back expecting the 'call'. If at all possible go in person, talk to the hiring manager when presenting your resume. Include a personalized cover letter and references.
Follow-up your resume with a call to bring you to top of mind without being a pest or appearing 'needy'.
Register with a recruitment firm specializing in your area of training and following their 'tips'. All the best!...
