What was the last really difficult interview question you were asked? How did you respond?
It was the open-ended question: tell us about a time you were required to demonstrate leadership in a difficult situation? I told them about a newspaper job I had where I was brought in as a section editor tasked with boosting readership, but without the full complement of core reporters. I told them about how I hired very young reporters, then broadened the basis of news coverage to make up for loss in experience. I detailed the tactical decisions I made to make sure we could maintain a baseline quality while we tried to draw in a larger cross-section of readers, how we responded to data from market surveys and how we managed to grow our readership year-over-year....
