Production Manager - Lantern
How would you describe your time at Ohio State University?
A professional staff position at the Ohio State University with responsibility centering on production of the University's student newspaper, the Lantern. The Lantern is Ohio's 16th largest daily newspaper, and the nation???s 2nd largest college newspaper. Responsible for converting the production process into an entirely digital format, supplying pages to the printer in .pdf format. This conversion freed the newspaper from all student employee labor costs and was the essential first step for the establishment of our web presence, www.thelantern.com, which continues to grow.
Solely produce the publication of Columbus State Community College???s student newspaper, the Cougar News, in accordance with a mutual production agreement established between the Ohio State Lantern and Columbus State. Incorporate news copy supplied by Columbus State student editorial staff members along with advertising sold by our sales staff to produce a weekly tabloid publication with circulation overseen by the Lantern.
Primary responsibilities:
???Production of classified and display advertising for print publication and via the Lantern???s website.
???System Administrator for local Appletalk network, including hardware/software maintenance and troubleshooting of 38 Macintosh workstations (G5???s, eMacs, iMacs), 4 Xserves, and related applications. Domain Name Administrator (DNA).
???Administrator for editing, publishing, pagination and classified advertising software, including:
???Baseview Publishing System???s IQueServer, NewsEditPro IQue and NewsEditPro, WireManager IQue and WireManager, Transporter, ClassManager Pro, ClassFlow, AdManagerPro
???Administrator for graphic design software, including:
???QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Acrobat, Graphic Converter and numerous editing tools
???Installation, operation and maintenance of production equipment consisting of:
???Laser printers: Unity 1800XL-O (2), HP Laserwriters (4), Xante Accel-A-Writer 3G
???Scanners: HP ScanJet 6100C, Microtek ScanMaker 4
???Training of employees, students and staff in use of equipment and software.
???Supplies acquisition, inventory control.
???Creation and preparation of instructional aids and other printed materials for faculty and staff....
