What was your first job?
Very first job was as a computer operator filling in dockets and time sheets. I got my ultra-super-extra-fast typing speed from there and not much else. I was just glad to be working with a computer.
What a lesson this teaches us. If I had followed my grandfather and become a mason I would qualify for immigration to most countries that utilize bricks and cement to raise their walls and roofs.
But I daresay my grandfather did not lay a brick as fast as I can type a 500 word article on acne. I am good....

January 2007 - Started working with a large online furniture retailer
Duties: This is one of the largest online furniture retailers in the United States offering more than 2000 products covering furniture, child care, safety, and gift items from nearly 70 brands.
My responsibility as their eStore Manager is to handle the frontend of their website. As an administrator, I have to organize the website, outsource content, gather information from vendors/manufacturers, check for seasonal updates, and make constant changes to the website to keep it looking fresh.
Manufacturers are always releasing new content and this is monitored so that products may be added to their eCommerce website. The same applies for product removal.
Data collection includes: - History of the manufacturer - Products offered along with images and content acquired through outsourced copywriters. Outsourced content requires proofreading and editing for acceptable American English. - Collating data for hundreds of products. - Uploading data to eCommerce backend (AmeriCommerce). - Testing and QA of all uploaded data. - Flash technology embedding where applicable. - Video editing and uploading through Flash video streaming where applicable. - Supervising the Search Engine Optimization team.
Besides this there are numerous maintenance activities like image editing, exploring technologies for better content delivery (for example: at first the zoomed image on the product details page was only a static image offered at low resolution but now it uses high resolution images through high-resolution zooming technology), and all other aspects of keeping an eCommerce website running.
Note that my duties concern only the management of the front-end of eCommerce and not the backend. I do not handle security, payment gateways, source code management, etc....
