Who was your most influential mentor and what did they teach you?

My boss at my first job in HR. In a short period of time, he taught me everything I know about HR. The best quality he had was that he allowed me to roll with ideas. I learned more in 2 years than I could have in any class.

As sole HR practioner, I took on the challenge of establishing an organized HR Department for a small firm. Primarily, my responsibilities were heavy recruiting and retention, employee relations, benefits management, payroll administration.
