How would you describe your time at SUNY at Albany, NY?

Working as a research assistant in the biological science department at the State University of New York at Albany, NY is a very rewarding experience. I learned the basics of daily maintenance of a research laboratory, which include ordering reagents and materials, updating protocols and MSDS, and organizing and disposing biological waste products. Under the supervision of my employer, Dr. Caro-Beth Stewart, I was fortunate to be involved in a project to sequence the histone pseudogenes of the Old World Monkeys. How would you describe your time at University of Delaware, DE?

I am a graduate student in the College of Marine and Earth Studies (CMES) at the University of Delaware (UD). So far, my experience here at the university is great. All staff and faculty members in the college are very helpful. The courses offered by CMES are diverse in topics and some of my courses are chosen specifically to meet research and professional development needs. I have a great research experience with Dr. Thomas Hanson (my graduate advisor) at CMES and Delaware Biotechnology Institute (DBI) here at UD. Other than the fact that culturing and studying anaerobic bacteria is technically more involved, my graduate research projects are absolutely rewarding. Furthermore, I have learned a lot from the excellent past post-doc, Dr. Rachael M. Morgan-Kiss, at UD. For Dr. Hanson???s website, please visit

How would you describe your time at SUNY at Buffalo, NY?

The State University of New York at Buffalo, NY is a relatively large university. I was an undergraduate student at the department of biochemistry. I feel absolutely fortunate to be admitted into the biochemistry program. I conducted my research under the supervision of Dr. Gail Willsky (http://www.smbs.buffalo.edu/bch/faculty/willsky...). She is very passionate about all projects in the laboratory and is willing to spend time with all graduate and undergraduate students alike. I studied the effects of vanadium compounds to the growth of yeast. I have gained tremendous experience in conducting and evaluating scientific experiments and it is Dr. Willsky that gives me the final push to attend graduate school.... read more
