Who was your most influential mentor and what did they teach you?
My most influential mentor was, and still is, a 70 year-old behavior specialist, named Reba Smith, at Orange Grove Center, Inc., Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is my HERO and I am also proud to call her one of my best friends. She deserves great comendations for the work accomplished teaching mentally-challenged children. She, over years, gained great knowledge and the "best" practices in which to use to teach "special" students. She is just phenomenal in the field of education! She always has the best interest of the student at heart, and I admire her perserverence, knowledge and dedication sustained over years of teaching "special" children. If I am lucky, one day, I hope to be as good as she. With her by my side as a great mentor, I am sure I will be.......

How would you describe your time at Orange Grove Center?
Overall, and in general, a pleasant and insightful experience. I learned a great deal about how to handle behavior-disordered children from staff member, behavior specialist, Reba Smith, B.S., S.E. However, first year teachers hired to teach at the facility need a more in-depth support system in place to find information and to discover important questions for optimal job performance. Also, it would be beneficial for employment (schools) to aid staff in working towards advancement of college degrees. Knowledge is POWER!...

How would you describe your time at Carson-Newman College?
The teaching and educational program offered at the school was was exceptional. However, the administration did not follow the policies and rules set in place to assure and protect fair treatment of its students. I left the school with a college degree, however, not the one originally sought. Most important, the college educational department gave unsubstantiated reasons for their negate actions completely opposite of their written college policies. In addition, I spoke with other students, both graduated and not yet graduated, who also experienced the wrath of the private college's the unfair practices....
