How would you describe your time at UCD Plant Sciences?
I worked on a grad student's experiment with native Mexican maize. The experiment studied Mexican maize and symbiotic bacterial nitrogen fixation for fertilizer inputs. I performed laboratory techniques and took and analyzed several types of samples from the corn plants. I tended to the corn growing in the greenhouse, performed root washing, took soil measurements and samples, analyzed plant tissues, and did soil and leaf tissue grinding. Also did a lot of data entry and analysis in Excel, and designed and improved the existing database. Studied biofuel production ( using corn kernels for ethanol fuel, as well as plant tissues for ethanol) and how this experiment could improve the cellulosic ethanol and biomass production industry....

How would you describe your time at Broadway Terrrace Nursery?
At Broadway Terrace I was a regular employee. The job consists of watering, pruning, cleaning and maintaining the plant inventory, as well as stocking, unloading, delivering and selling all of the inventory. I interact a lot with customers to sell them plants and "dry goods" like soil and fertilizer. Selling consists of asking questions about the location to be planted, like sun and water duration to determine appropriate plants to use. Developed knowledge of plant material and plant care to better serve customers. Also developed retail skills such as using suggestion and recommendation to sell more products without sounding like a sales pitch or being pushy. Develop friendships with customers that come in often and make all customers feel welcome....
