What was your first job?

At LOCKHEED MISSILES & SPACE, I was an Intern Engineer for two summers on the Trident I and II submarine-launched ballistic missile programs in product assessment parts engineering and reliability assessment. I earned D.O.D. "SECRET" security clearance. I also performed forensic engineering analyses for various part-testing programs, including high-pressure radioisotope leak testing of critical relays and age degradation studies of reentry package thruster cartridges. How would you describe your time at RSA Security?

Inbound and Outbound Software Marketing: and profitably launched a wide portfolio of RSA products and services targeted at end-users as well as OEM and in-house developers. Helped develop and successfully launch the strategic marketing plan for RSA???s X.509 Certificate Issuing System which became the first offering of RSA???s spinoff company, VeriSign. Worked closely with engineering to ensure that RSA???s offerings met customer expectations as well as budget and timeline realities.

IP License Negotiation: Personally negotiated and closed many of RSA???s most strategic intellectual property licenses and partnerships, including Apple, Motorola, Pixar, General Magic, Kodak, Pitney-Bowes, NASA and Hughes Aircraft among others.

Branding, Advertising and Press Relations: Using tightly budgeted marketing and PR campaigns, built RSA brand-recognition to the point that our acquiring company (Security Dynamics) decided to change their name to ???RSA??? shortly after the merger, despite the fact that their revenues were over 10x ours. Founded the annual RSA Conference, what Computerworld Magazine called ???the sine qua non of crypto conferences???. Grew attendance from 50 to over 14,00 attendees. Still serve on the Program Board of this conference.

Sales & Business Development: As employee #7 at RSA, I was responsible for all revenue generation and business development, along with RSA President Jim Bidzos. Built revenues from essentially zero to over $5,000,000, leading directly to the successful sale of the company to Security Dynamics in 1996. Helped select and train the growing sales team.

Strategic Industry-Standards Coalition Building: Initiated discussions with and/or represented RSA???s interests to industry partners and standards bodies such as NIST and the IETF. Played a key role in the eventual success of Internet standards such as S/MIME, X9F1, and CDPD which specify RSA technologies.
