How would you describe your time at National School of Arts?
Walter Valencia was born in Bogota, Colombia. His interest in music started at a very young age. He started his formal musical education in Junior High School when he joined his school's marching band and at the same time joined a folk music group. He studied colombian folk rhythms with several well known percusionist in Colombia like Alonzo Puello, Eduardo Martinez and Edson Quezada to name a few. In 1996 he traveled to Cuba where he studied percussion with world famous teachers such as Andres Cuallo, Jose Luis Quintana "Changuito", Tomas Ramon "El Panga", Pancho Quinto. He studied in Cuba for two years and also played in several local bands. In 999 he traveled to Miami, Florida where he accompanied several artist and then traveled to Los Angeles, California where he currently lives. He has been part of many bands and he's played within different musical genders such as Rock, Pop, Latin Jazz, Cumbia, Salsa....
